From the Libertarian Party of Indiana After failing their only Constitutionally mandated duty of passing a budget, the Indiana General Assembly will convene for a special session today. A single day session would cost at least $25,720. But that isn't going to happen. This session will likely go until June 30th, when they HAVE to have a budget, or Indiana will face a shutdown. So for the next three weeks, you will pay 150 legislators at least $12,420 in daily expense pay, plus $13,300 for their travel expenses. What was the hold up? House Speaker Pat Bauer and the Indiana Democrats in the House wanted to increase overall state spending by 14% each year of this budget. Most of it was for education. Click this link for a report on how much the Indiana State Teachers Association contributes to Indiana Democrats. They also wanted to limit charter schools, and other forms or school choice! As if that is enough, they have been acting like children. Last week, House Democrats walked out of a budget hearing, and held their own. Our politicians seem to have very little idea that the State of Indiana and our Federal Government are out of money, and that we are in a recession because of them. Remind Them! Contact your legislator, and remind them that an increase in spending is out of the question at this moment, and that includes their paid vacation in Indianapolis! http://www.in.gov/apps/sos/legislator/search/ And then consider a run against them! We are recruiting candidates for all 100 House seats and 25 State Senate seeats in 2010. Fill out the form here: http://www.lpin.org/run-for-office |

If you're a taxpayer looking to contribute to the economy by adding onto your existing home or building a new one, you won't catch a break from LaPorte County government. According to the LaPorte County Building Commission, residential building permit fees range from $15 for an electrical inspection to 43 to 50 cents a square foot for home construction, with no cap. This translates into a permit fee of up to $1000 for a 2000 sq.ft. house. The Herald-Argus lists 95 permits that were issued in May 2009 to LaPorte County taxpayers. Forcing private residents to pay for improving their private residences is alive and well in LaPorte County. |
