After failing their only Constitutionally mandated duty of passing a budget, the Indiana General Assembly will convene for a special session today. A single day session would cost at least $25,720. But that isn't going to happen. This session will likely go until June 30th, when they HAVE to have a budget, or Indiana will face a shutdown. So for the next three weeks, you will pay 150 legislators at least $12,420 in daily expense pay, plus $13,300 for their travel expenses.

What was the hold up? House Speaker Pat Bauer and the Indiana Democrats in the House wanted to increase overall state spending by 14% each year of this budget. Most of it was for education. Click this link for a report on how much the Indiana State Teachers Association contributes to Indiana Democrats. They also wanted to limit charter schools, and other forms or school choice! As if that is enough, they have been acting like children. Last week, House Democrats walked out of a budget hearing, and held their own.

Our politicians seem to have very little idea that the State of Indiana and our Federal Government are out of money, and that we are in a recession because of them.
